A $10,000 grant from the Kathryn Wasserman Davis "100 Projects for Peace" program will help Agnes Scott students support an Atlanta-wide arts activism project entitled Fighting Domestic Violence, Creating Domestic Peace.

"We hope that Fighting Domestic Violence, Creating Domestic Peace will inspire community building, policy changes and awareness among all Atlantans of how individuals can fight against domestic violence through the decoration of a simple tile," said Nancy Thebault, Agnes Scott student organizer for the Saturday, May 26 project - part of the Decatur Arts Festival.

Of the 65 colleges and universities selected to be affiliated with the KWD 100 Projects for Peace program to confront domestic violence, Agnes Scott is the sole representative from Georgia.

Theatrical performances, musical ensembles, a picnic and the opportunity for each participant to paint a tile depicting how his or her life has been affected by domestic violence will ensure the day's memorable quality.

Celebrate Earth Day at Oakhurst this weekend

  • Oakhurst welcomes everyone to the Earth Day Celebration on April 21 and 22. The Decatur Recreation Department, the Oakhurst Business Association, the Oakhurst Community Garden Project and the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church are sponsoring the events throughout the weekend, 404.37730494
  • 8 am-12 pm: Birding at the Carlos Museum. A virtual aviary exists within the walls of the Carlos Museum and birders of all ages are invited to search the galleries for feathered friends. No binoculars are required, just a scavenger hunt as a guide and a keen eye to spot osprey, falcons, condors, ibis, pelicans and vultures wherever they may perch. Atlanta ceramic artist Ana Vizurraga demonstrates how to shape birds from clay, then ornithologist Chris Showalter and biologist Trecia Neal of Fernbank Science Center show native birds captured briefly in their mist nets. Celebrate Earth Day at Oakhurst this weekend

  • Oakhurst welcomes everyone to the Earth Day Celebration on April 21 and 22. The Decatur Recreation Department, the Oakhurst Business Association, the Oakhurst Community Garden Project and the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church are sponsoring the events throughout the weekend, 404.37730494
  • 8 am-12 pm: Birding at the Carlos Museum. A virtual aviary exists within the walls of the Carlos Museum and birders of all ages are invited to search the galleries for feathered friends. No binoculars are required, just a scavenger hunt as a guide and a keen eye to spot osprey, falcons, condors, ibis, pelicans and vultures wherever they may perch. Atlanta ceramic artist Ana Vizurraga demonstrates how to shape birds from clay, then ornithologist Chris Showalter and biologist Trecia Neal of Fernbank Science Center show native birds captured briefly in their mist nets.
