8 am-12 pm: Birding at the Carlos Museum. A virtual aviary exists within the walls of the Carlos Museum and birders of all ages are invited to search the galleries for feathered friends. No binoculars are required, just a scavenger hunt as a guide and a keen eye to spot osprey, falcons, condors, ibis, pelicans and vultures wherever they may perch. Atlanta ceramic artist Ana Vizurraga demonstrates how to shape birds from clay, then ornithologist Chris Showalter and biologist Trecia Neal of Fernbank Science Center show native birds captured briefly in their mist nets. 11-5 pm: Last day of Alejandro Aguilera and Radcliffe Bailey: Pitching at Emory's Visual Arts Building and Gallery. Atlanta artists Aguilera and Bailey present their installation on Black and Cuban baseball leagues, 404.727.6315
7-11 pm:April Showers at Art House's opening reception. The artist collective known as MINT joins forces with Art House to bring forth an innovative group show. Using umbrellas for their sculptural quality, each artist brings a different feeling to the collection of work, 404.377.7050
8 pm: The History of Short Film Improv 101 at the Academy Theatre. Improv at its best! Join Laughing Matters as they take your suggestions of people, places and things and develop scenes, skits, poems, operas, songs and sketches. The Decatur Arts Alliance is a nonprofit partnership of artists, business owners, residents and government dedicated to supporting and enhancing the arts in the city of Decatur. The DAA sponsors the annual Decatur Arts Festival as well as special art events for members only. It also provides a collaborative environment to coordinate the interests of artists, gallery owners, theater groups, dance groups and performance venues within Decatur and to help build the image of the city as a strong arts community.
